Concept

The idea for HAUS KW was born with the owner's wish to separate the Sauna from the main house. The house is planned to be built on top of a demolished older structure that was previously used as a guest house. The form/shell of the house is derived from a formal morphing process between a tyicpal local vernacular pitched roof building type with a simplified modern box house.

Highly reflective insulated metal panels constitute the main outer layer of the building skin. Wooden slats on the North facade resemble the traditional building material so often used as cladding material in buildings of surrounding mountainous regions. Sustainably grown and locally sourced timber makes up the structural system of the house. The partially floating cast-in-place concrete slab allows for a smaller footprint of the building and less disturbance of the existing landscape. Privacy requirements towards the East are satisfied with glazed openings placed on the South and West side only. The interior finish is deliberately kept stark, with a sealed concrete floor and flat white walls, in order to highlight the warm wooden Sauna block and wooden furniture pieces.
