The House with No Reception - Galveston Island

Date

2020

Location

GALVESTON

This getaway (weekend) destination celebrates remoteness and isolation
from a man-made, synthetic urban environment. The House with No Reception
is a place disconnected from the world wide web; Smartphones, phones, TV and radio are not welcome at this locale.

A destination for decoupling the mind of digital instant gratification, news,
social media, blogging, vlogging and all the other trending
obsessive-compulsive behaviors accelerated by smartphone technology
engrained in our daily routines.
The House with No Reception - Galveston Island is tiny, simple, but colorful.
It offers a prosaic living experience in terms of building amenities, and a rich, vivid
visual experience due to its rigorous urban street grid inspired cladding pattern applied to the exterior
and interior. Inside out, outside in.

The House with No Reception renders residents an experience of self-awareness.

The bathroom and staircase, the only (opaque) spaces, form the core and main structural
roof support of the house. A small kitchenette, storage and shelving, as well as
queen sized bed are integrated into the core perimeter for efficiency and
minimization of the footprint of the house. The resemblance with oil rig structures provides a familiar
character found along the gulf of Mexico coastline.

The space around the core is continuous living space with no separation
between cooking, sleeping, reading and sitting. A privacy curtain around the
sleeping area is optional.

Don't forget sunscreen.
